Objectives
- Deliver a DALI-based dimmable lighting control system to suit a high-spec architectural chapel.
- Provide a user-friendly control interface suitable for various use scenarios – assemblies, performances, and presentations.
- Allow for future flexibility, enabling remote updates and reconfiguration without the need for onsite visits.
- Seamlessly integrate with the space’s architectural lighting design without adding visual clutter or complexity.
Technical Solutions
The lighting design within the chapel demanded a level of control precision to match the exceptional finish of the space. Slimline pendant fittings and powerful, apex-mounted track spots formed the core lighting elements – all selected for both performance and aesthetics.
To support this design:
-
All fittings were supplied DALI dimmable, allowing for fine-grained lighting control and scene-setting.
-
No presence or daylight sensors were required in this application, keeping the user in full command of lighting behaviours.
-
We installed two touchscreen control panels, giving Dilworth staff a centralised and intuitive interface to manage lighting modes throughout the chapel.
One of the key advantages of this setup is the ability to remotely update or modify the touchscreen interface. If lighting scenes or user preferences change, we can log in off-site and implement those updates in minutes – reducing downtime and eliminating the need for additional site visits.
Lighting Control that Elevates Performance Spaces
In a space designed for flexible use – from formal assemblies to high-production performances – lighting must be adaptable and reliable. Intelligent control systems play a crucial role in shaping the atmosphere, supporting functionality, and streamlining operations.
Our approach at Dilworth College demonstrates how custom control interfaces, scalable DALI dimming, and remote serviceability can meet the demands of high-profile education projects. It’s about giving users control without complexity and ensuring the system continues to serve their needs well into the future.
Project Outcome
The new chapel at Dilworth College is not only visually stunning but also functionally seamless, with a lighting control system that complements its architectural intent. Intelligent Environments delivered a solution that is as practical as it is elegant – future-ready, intuitive, and aligned with the project’s overall design excellence.
Working alongside respected industry partners like Cassidy Construction and Poynter Electrical, this project reflects our continued focus on delivering intelligent lighting control to New Zealand’s most forward-thinking spaces.
